places, and 6d, brown single with four margins or margins in places and thrice cancelled "7", London Paid c.d.s. (12.3) in red towards foot, despatch c.d.s. on reverse. A couple of the stamps with small defects though a most unusual franking at 10d.
plus 1/- for late fee. Sc. 12g, 14e; S.G. 38, 42. Note: The late fee of 1/- was introduced on 1 January 1864. It would appear that it was not mandatory to mark mail as Late Letter or that it was being charged the Late Fee. It is presumed that the

sharing manuscript "Ho Ho Creek 11/09/67" and all cancelled "C" in oval of bars at Christchurch in transit, showing various rate marks, oval-framed "pd" and London Registered oval d.s. (4.12),
both in red, boxed registration h.s. and "england per aachen/franco" c.d.s., both in blue, Hokitika (1?.9) and Christchurch (16.9) c.d.s. on reverse. The stamps originally removed and incorrectly
replaced, subsequently removed for a second time and replaced in the correct positions using an ultra-violet lamp (Ellott). A remarkable four-color, mixed-issue franking paying the 2/6d. registered rate, 4d. overpaid. B.P.A. (1963) and R.P.S. (2006)

indistinctly cancelled "18", the reverse with clear despatch c.d.s.; the envelope rather crumpled and with some soiling. Very rare, being the sole example of a Chalon Head on mail to New Caledonia.
