254, 269, 280 |
#254, 269, 280 4c Bureau issues of 1894, 1895 and 1898, wonderful postal history exhibit collection, consisting of 47 mounted and well annotated covers, plus 10 more
unmounted, all have in common that few (if any) are "common" usages, all selected for being interesting and scarce in some way, both domestic and foreign usages, domestic covers begin with the Earliest Known Usage of the 1894 Issue (11/18/94) on
cover, and we note a bisect revenue usage, illustrated and patriotic covers, better towns including such areas as Indian Territories and Alaska, plus the foreign destinations are particularly scarce, including Honduras, Malta, Paraguay, Sweden and
Uruguay, overall the condition is quite nice, with nearly all fine-very fine; a difficult group to assemble and perfect for the Bureau issue specialist or exhibitor. (imagea)

304 |
#304, 5c Blue, the remarkable foreign destination postal history collection/accumulation of over 120 covers, this incredible assemblage is the most comprehensive and
fascinating collection of its kind likely to have ever been formed, as each of these covers were painstakingly and patiently assembled by Mr. Ainsworth over many years, selecting as many different foreign destinations as he could find, often
acquiring more than one from several countries if the usage was particularly interesting, like uncommon advertising covers such as an illustrated gun cover to Buenos Aires, Argentina, or colorful illustrated exposition covers to Germany, just a
sampling of the many scarce destinations found in this collection include Bahamas, Ceylon, China, German East Africa, Gold Coast, Iceland, Japan, Palestine, Russia, Turkestan and many others too numerous to mention, adding to the desirability of this
group is the presence of a number of covers with special use stamps on them, such as foreign postage dues, officially sealed, etc., plus several are used from places outside of the continental U.S. like Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Samoa, about two-thirds
of the covers have been mounted and are well annotated, with dozens more waiting to be mounted, included in the group are a few better domestic uses, but nearly all are foreign destinations, condition varies however the vast majority are fine-very
fine; without question this collection could immediately contend for a gold-medal at any level. (Image) |
