741 O imageS.G. #H23, 1914 "TOGO/Anglo-French/Occupation" overprint on 1M Carmine, narrow setting, an especially choice used single tied to piece by "Lome/Togo/29.9.14" c.d.s., perfectly centered, and wonderfully fresh with brilliant color on clean crisp paper, extremely fine; a major high value rarity; Gibbs estimates that only 40 stamps were issued, and though most were used, certainly less exist today; this stamp is a perfect match for the 2M of this setting offered in our June 2003 British Empire sale being used on a similar piece with the same cancel on the same date; 1955 RPS and 1997 BPA certificates (Scott #57; $4,500.00).
