760 ogO S.G. #1/147, 1870-79 Arms Issue mint and used extraordinary collection consisting of over 275 singles, plus 32 pairs, being the issues of the First Republic and the "V.R." overprints on these issues during the first British occupation, the basis of this collection is the collection lot sold in the 1991 Dale-Lichtenstein Auction of British Africa, to which have been added subsequent acquisitions by Mr. Allen, a splendid array of the different printings and including imperforates and various types of rouletting as he was able to acquire, numerous shades are found throughout, and often both mint and used, within the overprinted issues are found varieties including inverted overprints, pairs showing both Roman and italic type, later issues include small "T" varieties, etc., condition varies as would be expected from this period and the fragile paper that was frequently used for producing these issues, mint usually have o.g. and the vast majority are attractive with a great many being truly fine-very fine; a wonderful opportunity to acquire a great collection of these interesting issues to build upon; Stanley Gibbons catalog value is in excess of £30,000; accompanied by seven mostly BPA and RPS certificates (Scott #1/96). 761 ogO S.G. #133/276, Comprehensive mint and used collection less the early Arms issues, but consisting of the Victoria issue and virtually all the "1 Penny" surcharges, the middle period issues include some reprints as well as originals, but include a used £5 Deep green accompanied by 1976 BPA certificate, another nice section is the King Edward VII issues less only the £5 Orange brown and violet, all but a couple are mint, attractive collection of this country, o.g. or used, mostly fine-very fine; also includes 20 imperforate reprint sheets of the 1885 Arms issue, mostly the 1p value in different colors; accompanied by three BPA certificates (Scott #97/174). 762 c imageS.G. #1, 1900 "V.R.I." overprint on 1/2p Green, tied to legitimately used "V.R.I." overprinted 1/2p Green postal card, this is the same Lydenburg overprint as used on the stamp, card cancelled and stamp tied by two strikes of "P.O.A./43" in bars military cancel, posted to Annandale in Bedford, England, sent by a corporal in the occupying forces reporting his health and location back home, insignificant corner creases to card due to normal postal wear, otherwise very fine; this 1/2p card and a registry envelope were issued at Lydenburg in additition to the stamps, both are great rarities and to find this example legitimately used is a great treat; 1989 BPA certificate (Scott #214). 768 ogObl S.G. #1-30, Largely mint collection of 33 singles plus a block of four and two full sheets of 24, complete for all the main types and values, half a dozen are cancelled, the sheets consist of the 2p Black on orange, imperforate and perforated, top two rows of the imperforate sheet are cancelled, the perforated sheet was issued in two counter sheets of 12, one of these separated in half vertically, o.g. or cancelled, nearly all fine-very fine; an interesting collection of these provisional issues produced prior to the British occupation.
