11(2)i |
#11(2)i, 2½p Indigo, missing "1" in "½" fraction,
a lovely used example of this famous and popular rarity, the error
resulting from a temporary ink clog which completely obliterated the "1" in
"½" fraction, but was quickly corrected, well centered within large
margins, deep luxuriant color on bright paper, light and unobtrusive
"(Hami)lton, Vic/29.JA.20" c.d.s. which is wonderfully positioned as to not
obscure the error, completely free of any of the flaws which affect most
known copies, very fine and choice; considered to be the finest example
available of the twelve used copies recorded (one of which is in the
Royal Collection, plus there are three known mint examples); 1956 Royal
Philatelic Society of Victoria certificate, as well as being signed by
Peter Holcombe and accompanied by his 1994 certificate (A$12,500). (Image) |
