5/512, D1-39, O3/108 |
S.G. #5/512, D1-39, O3/103, The comprehensive and valuable balance of
the William H. Gross Collection of Great Britain, approximately 550
different items, mostly singles and, with the exception of one stamp, all
are mint, all neatly displayed in a single Lighthouse hingeless album, plus
a few additional pages for varieties, with the Stanley Gibbons catalogue
numbers noted under each stamp, the collection is not only noteworthy for
an exceptional representation of major numbers, but a wealth of plate,
shade and watermark varieties as well, there is an impressive number of
stamps that catalogue between £300 and £750 each (and several
even higher), the collection begins with only a spotty representation of
Line Engraved items, however the 1853-83 Surface Printed issues is where
the collection really shines, with a plethora of desirable and salable
stamps, with many stamps collected by all of the various plate numbers as
detailed in the Stanley Gibbons catalogue, shade varieties abound as well,
the 1887-1951 issues also are extremely well represented with many shade
and watermark varieties, even some high value Seahorses are noted, the
postage dues are complete for the period, again with some shades and
varieties, concluding with a nice representation of official stamps and
issues for Offices in China; while there are some earlier issues with small
flaws as to be expected, the overall condition found in this collection is
well above the norm, with very few exceptions the stamps possess o.g. and
hinging is typically fairly light, in fact as the collection progresses
there are many n.h. stamps to be found; a very valuable and exciting lot as
the Stanley Gibbons catalogue value will surely exceed £100,000. |
