S.G. #62 |
S.G. #62, 1873 6p Orange vermilion, perf. 11 to 12, wmk. large star, unused right sheet-margin horizontal strip of four, lovely bright color, scissors trimmed at top
close to the design, otherwise well centered within the strip and fresh; this value is analogous to the (1/2p) Grass green and (1p) Blue on unwatermarked paper with these same perforations (S.G. #36, 37), they were all prepared in small quantities
but unissued, as noted in Stanley Gibbons there are only eight examples of this value known, contained in two strips of four, they were in fact a block of eight one time, this being the top strip with the other strip being also a right
sheet-margin strip from the row directly below this, which had been previously thought to be the only strip known, as far as we know that strip is yet intact, so there are, in fact, only two items of this issue to be had; a great rarity of Barbados;
1990 RPS certificate; ex-Harris (Scott #41 var.; $32,000.00+). (Image) |

S.G. #86b, 1878 "1D." Surcharge on half of 5/- Dull rose, unsevered pair, surcharge reading up, an unusually handsome appearing and well centered example of this
exceedingly rare mint pair, this example possesses a deep rose shade with brightness that is not often found on this stamp, it also retains a large portion of its original gum, h.r., accompanying certificate states "repaired tear lower right
corner", which we do not find to be so much repaired as just a laminated small tear, which is quite unobtrusive and hardly apparent from the face, extremely fine appearance; this is a wonderfully attractive example of this rarity of which there are
only a tiny number extant in any condition; 2003 RPS certificate; ex-Harris (Scott #57a; $25,000.00). (Image) |

S.G. #19, 22 |
1893 "One Penny." provisional postcard surcharge, setting C of the surcharge (the rarest of the three settings known), perfectly positioned between 1/2p Stone and 1p
Dull rose Victoria adhesives (S.G. #19, 22), used on post card to Erfurt, Germany, stamps neatly tied to card by "Kingston/SP 20 94/Bermuda" duplex cancel, Erfurt arrival c.d.s. at bottom left, a very fine and choice example; this very rare
provisional resulted from a reduction in the overseas postcard rate to 1p, with existing stocks of postcards being surcharged, including those cards in stock that had the 1/2p and 1p adhesives applied, it is believed that only 80 or 87 of these cards
were so surcharged, with only a very few of these ever being used, and fewer still survive today, with this being among the finest available used examples. (Image) |
