1921-22 Shackleton-Rowett Expedition, elusive group of five Great Britain George V issues, each bearing a portion of a violet "S.R. Antarctic/Ja 14/22/Expedition
1921." c.d.s., which are believed to be trial impressions of the this special cancellation applied in South Georgia, includes a 3p single and rare block of four (1971 BPA certificate), a pair of the 6p, a single of the 1/-, and a highly desirable 5/-
"Seahorse" with lovely central strike, fine-very fine; lot also includes singles of the 2/6, 5/- and 10/- "Seahorses" with central strikes of the violet trial cancellation, but each has a damaged corner and these have not been counted in our estimate

1921-22 Shackleton-Rowett Expedition, a highly desirable autographed letter signed by Shackleton datelined "25th Nov.1921/off the Coast of Brazil," one of the last
letters known from Shackleton, as he suffered a heart attack within sight of South Georgia and died on January 5, 1922, short note on "Quest. R.Y.S." imprinted stationery acknowledging photographs of the Quest, but "with the ship rolling
heavily, so cannot write at length," accompanied by scarce original mailing envelope addressed to England, bearing a violet double handstamped cachet "R.M.S.P. 'Andes'/2 Dec. 1921/Posted on the High Seas" nicely struck, franked with a Great Britain
2p adhesive which is tied by a "Paquebot" wavy line postmark, cover with transit wrinkles at top right, letter itself is very fine; accompanied by a picture post card of the Quest; altogether a marvelous exhibition page.

violet boxed "Quest/R.Y.S." ship cachet from the famous Shackleton Expedition, franked with a Falkland Island 1p adhesive and tied by a perfect strike of a "South Georgia/My 5/22" double circle c.d.s., some minor cover soiling and trivial staining at
right edge, still quite fine and exceedingly handsome; not only one of the premier rarities in Polar philately, but one of the most important postal history rarities in Falkland Island philately as well.
