R111a |
#R111a, 20c Blue and black, Center Inverted, an attractive example of this rare invert, possessing outstanding colors that are remarkably deep and rich, in
addition it is cancelled by a light oval blue handstamp dated Mar 30, 1872, as well as an unusually light herringbone cancel that barely breaks the paper in one place, better centered than most, tiny trace of a thin speck at top right, still
fine; only seventeen examples of the Twenty Cent with Inverted Centers are recorded, with this being one of the finest among that small group, as its centering is far superior to most (there are no very fine centered copies) and it is one of
only six that possess the desirable handstamp cancel, plus we are aware of only one that does not have faults. (Image) |

that can compare in terms of quality is the used ex-Joyce copy, which has not been certified by the Philatelic Foundation; 1989 PF certificate. (Image) |
