7, 8A, 9 |
#7, 8A, 9, 1c Blue 1851 Issue, remarkable holding of about 250 stamps, mostly singles but includes several pairs and strips ranging in size from three to six, nearly all were purchased on an individual basis at auction, with each one either
being on the original auction card, or in a stockbook with a Showguard mount neatly cut and with the original purchase information, as well as the type, plate and position of each (if known) neatly noted on the back of the mount, this is not your
typical "accumulation", but rather a carefully selected group, with numerous better varieties present, nearly all are either Type II (#7) or Type IV (#9), though there are three Type IIIa (#8A), the Type II stamps include many better plate varieties,
including the "Big Crack", double and triple transfers, etc., also some from the scarce Plate 3, and key positions such as 4R1L, several sheet-margin singles and pairs noted, Type IV stamps contain a plethora of recutting varieties, including the
various combinations of recutting at top and/or bottom, plus double and triple transfers, some sheet-margin examples including a couple showing the straddle guide line, the overall condition is excellent, as evidenced by the collector often having to
pay a few hundred dollar each for many, nearly all with very fine appearance and a large percentage possess four large margins and are extremely fine; an outstanding lot of One Cent 1851 Issues that must be seen to be fully appreciated. |
