 The exceptional balance of the William H. Gross collection of postally used Union patriotic covers, a lovely group of 38 covers all having been individually
acquired by Mr. Gross at various auctions, typically in the $150.00 to $700.00 range, and some even higher, all having been selected either for their scarce design or for other more "common" designs with unusually high quality, as one can see from
the selected items we have shown in the close by illustration, these are not your typically seen designs, but there are numerous covers that are multicolored, overall designs, elusive publishers, etc., there are even five multicolored (or bronze)
Magnus designs that are rarely encountered used, all have been franked with Scott #26 or #65, plus a couple that are stampless, a great number are either ex-Walcott and/or Bischel, as with all patriotics, there is the occasional flaw or repair
to either the cover or stamps, but typically they are relatively minor in nature and do not affect their overall appearance, plus there are several that are quite choice, fine-very fine; a wonderful group either for the Civil War postal history
