in addition to being a mixed issue usage, the stamps are neatly tied by two strikes of "P.D." handstamps of Bagnone, with a large double circle 25 September datestamp of that city at right and backstamped at Seravezza, another interesting feature of

Balance of the William H. Gross collection of Spain, a worthwhile collection of hundreds of all pre-1940 mint and used singles, sets and souvenir sheets housed in a Lighthouse hingeless album, the 19th century issues are well filled and
largely used, while the 20th century is quite comprehensive and mainly mint, there is excellent value in the used classics including 1850 12c, 5R and 10R, 1851 6c mint with CEM certificate, 5R, 6R and 10R, 1852 6R, 1853 1c, 3c unused signed Kosack
and 6R, 1854 2c, 1R and 6R, 1855 4c, 1856 2R mint, 1860-61 19c, 1864 1R mint gem, 1865 19c, 1856 perforated issue 19c, 1866 19c, 1866-67 19c, 1868-69 19c, 1870 1e600m, 2e and 19c, then mint 1872 10P, 1873 4P, 1874 4P, 1975 4P and 10P, 1878 4P and 10P
and 1905 1P-10P, the 20th century includes many of the better mint sets, including 1931 Montserrat set of nineteen used and a 1938 Submarine souvenir sheet, and most of the semi-postals and air mails are also present in mint condition, the overall
quality is quite nice, there are some small faults, three margin examples and off center among the used, while most of the mint are o.g. and generally well centered, with the occasional n.h. stamp to be found; overall a pleasing collection of this
increasingly popular country with substantial catalog value which, in all likelihood will exceed $40,000.00. |
