#99, 24c Gray lilac, "F" grill, a highly
desirable mint example of this notoriously difficult value, possessing an
impressive overall brilliance rarely seen, with gloriously rich color and a
prooflike impression on bright paper, while centered a bit to left this is
actually far better centered than the great majority of known mint
examples, in fact its perforations are essentially clear of the design all
around which is a very rare occurrence, full o.g., lightly hinged, very
fine and extraordinarily choice; of all the 1867 grilled issues, the Twenty
Four Cent "F" Grill ranks as one of the most challenging to locate in
premium original gum condition; 1991 and 2002 PF certificates. (Image) |

#100, 30c Orange, "F" grill, a spectacular
quality used example that is easily one of the very finest used Thirty
Cent "F" grills extant, as this remarkable stamp is not only free of
the flaws usually associated with this value, but its margins and centering
are beyond compare, being incredibly well centered amid huge margins that
are never encountered, even its color is far more deep and luxuriant than
usual on bright fresh paper, choice strike of fancy geometric postmark in a
small circle, extremely fine; a marvelous used gem for the finest
collection; the Scott catalog states "Values for No. 100 are for copies
with small margins, especially at sides. Large-margined examples sell for
much more"; 2001 PF certificate.
