Columbian usages to foreign destinations, 48
covers to 36 different countries, with no more than two to any country,
there are some of the more usual European destinations, but these tend to
be better usages such as one to France with French postage dues added and a
3c and 30c value to Austria, less common European destinations include
Denmark, Sweden (two), Finland, Ireland, Hungary (forwarded from England),
Italy (with postage dues added upon arrival) and Dalmatia, also nine to
Central or South America including British Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua,
Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina (two), plus Australia, New Zealand, Japan
(two), Philippines (two), India (two, one with stamps missing), South
Africa (two), Cyprus, Barbados, Bermuda, Cuba, Turkey, and a late usage on
front to North West Pacific Islands, all went through the mails with
appropriate transits and backstamps, a few covers with small flaws as
expected, but generally a fine-very fine lot with many seldom seen
usages. (imagea)

Columbian literature lot of several dozen items, includes some
auction catalogs, articles, photocopy of Jack Rosenthal's collection, an
1893 world atlas published by Cram specifically for the Columbian World's
Fair, and perhaps most important of all are the hundreds of auction and
retail clippings with descriptions and photos of more important covers,
this would be indispensable in publishing a census of first day covers and
other important Columbian postal history. |
