FDC |
1057d |
#1057d, 3c Deep violet coil, tagged, small holes,
from the original printing made especially for "Look" magazine, pair tied
to Boerger cacheted FDC by "Washington, DC/May 12, 1967" machine cancel,
this is the date that these stamps were placed on philatelic sale to the
public in Washington, fresh and very fine; this particular tagged stamp was
specially printed and delivered to "Look" magazine in October of 1966, the
earliest documented use is listed as December 29, 1966 by Scott as a
commercial use by "Look" magazine, all of which are great rarities,
undelivered portions of that printing were first put on sale at the
philatelic window on this May 12,1967 date, Alfred Boerger, the tagging
specialist, was the only one to make these covers and he had them priced at
$500.00 in his last price list of 1993; this is not to be confused with the
later June 26, 1967 philatelic printing of this tagged coil (Scott #1057b)
that was re-issued to satisfy philatelic demand because of the scarcity of
the earlier printing. (Image) |
