#389, 3c Deep violet, Ty. I, "Orangeburg Coil",
perf. 12 vert., an extraordinarily well centered used single of this
incredibly rare coil that virtually never comes centered, intensely rich
color and deeply etched impression, neat wavy line cancel that is the
hallmark of this issue as these were nearly all used in the same way, being
specifically issued for Bell Pharmaceutical Co. to mail samples to doctors,
light and barely discernible diagonal creases at top, a factor that is
hardly a flaw on this issue as many of the existing copies were damaged
(usually creasing) due to the fact that the contents of the doctor's sample
envelope were a bit bulky, in all other respects an extremely fine stamp
and certainly among the finest examples available of the small number
that are known; 1992 and 2006 PF certificate.
