postal entire (#U429) by Winnett, Mont. four-bar cancels, February 13,

later, very fine and choice cover; interestingly the clerk grabbed a "31"

is easily recognized by the fact that February doesn't have 31 days and the
confirming backstamp on the 15th; 2005 APS certificate;

476A |
#476A, 30c Orange red, the extremely rare
unwatermarked, perforated 10 issue, an exceptionally fresh and
attractive mint example of this notoriously difficult and elusive stamp,
possessing a marvelous overall freshness, with rich luxuriant color and a
clean crisp impression on bright paper, while centered a bit to top left,
this is actually much better centered than the majority of the small
existing population (most are strongly off center), with its perforations
well clear of the design, pristine o.g., never hinged, very fine; one of
the rarest U.S. stamps of the 20th century, with only two sheets recorded
(200 stamps total), this being position 23 from the plate no. 6917 sheet;
although the PSE has recently claimed to have found a trace of a watermark
on one stamp from one of the #476A panes, the presence of "ghost"
watermarks on some #476A's and on the Unwatermarked Perf. 11 Issue has been
well known to philatelists for decades, we believe #476A will stand the
test of time as one of the rarities of 20th Century United States
philately; 1984 PF certificate. (Image) |

#477, 50c Light violet, a magnificent bottom
sheet-margin mint single of this scarce high value, being one of the
finest never hinged #477's we have ever had the pleasure to offer, as
this stamp boasts several desirable attributes that rarely converge on a
single stamp, possessing a marvelous overall freshness and brilliance, with
rich luxuriant color and a highly detailed impression on immaculate white
paper, incredibly well centered within uncharacteristically large margins,
o.g., never hinged, an extremely fine gem in every regard; photocopy of a
2004 PSE certificate for a block of four, this being the bottom right
stamp, and a 2005 PSE certificate as a single (XF-Superb 95; SMQ
$14,400.00); this is the highest grade the PSE has awarded this stamp,
being one of only three never hinged examples to achieve this grade. (Image) |
