476A |
#476A, 30c Orange red, the extremely rare
unwatermarked, perforated 10 issue, position 30 from the plate no. 6917
sheet, with sheet margin at right, typical centering for this, deep vibrant
color, o.g., n.h. (short gumming at right), fine; one of the rarest U.S.
stamps of the 20th century, with only two sheets recorded (200 stamps
total); although the PSE has recently claimed to have found a trace of a
watermark on one stamp from one of the #476A panes, the presence of "ghost"
watermarks on some #476A's and on the Unwatermarked Perf. 11 Issue has been
well known to philatelists for decades, we believe #476A will stand the
test of time as one of the rarities of 20th century United States
philately; 1984 PF certificate. (Image) |
