#68, 10c Yellow green, a phenomenal mint example, possessing remarkable physical characteristics that rarely converge on a single stamp from this era, including
being precisely centered amid extravagantly large margins, rich luxuriant color and a well defined impression, full fresh o.g. that has been only lightly hinged, an extremely fine gem for the finest collection; 1987 PF certificate (erroneously listed
as #68a) and a 2008 PSE certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $9,800.00); to give one an idea on just how difficult it is to get a Superb 98 grade on an original gum stamp from this series, consider that not only is this by far the highest grade for #68
(the next highest being a mere 85), it is, with the exception of the common Three Cent stamp (#65), the only original gum example in the entire 1861-66 Series (Scott #63-78) to receive this impressive grade; a superb stamp whose ultimate
realization will undoubtedly be record breaking. (Image) |
