Spink Shreves Galleries - The September 2008 Collector's Series Sale - September 11-13, 2008
Spink Shreves September 2008 Collector's Series Sale is filled with an
exceptional range of highly desirable United States, British North America
and Worldwide postage stamps and postal history. As always, several name
collections highlight this particularly valuable and comprehensive sale of
1949 lots.
The United States portion of the auction contains hundreds of premium
quality mint and used U.S. stamps - the vast majority with certificates -
exactly the kind of material serious collectors have come to expect to see
in a Spink Shreves auction. A private collection fills the auction with an
impressive offering of premium quality “graded” U.S. stamps.
The Neal M. Allen Collection contains a fabulous assortment of "A to Z"
countries of the world which also includes U.S. material. It catalogs in
excess of $4,000,000 - featuring hundreds of elusive and rare stamps rarely
offered at auction. Plus, many dozen desirable collection balances. The
estate of Keith A. Wagner philatelic holding includes an exceptional
collection of the history of worldwide aviation - highlighted by a sound,
original gum example of the famous U.S. "Inverted Jenny" - Scott #C3a.
The George W. Brett Estate contains selections from the massive holdings
accumulated over literally a lifetime by one of the greatest students of
stamp production. Included are many esoteric and interesting individual
lots, as well as collection lots. There is an impressive offering of U.S.
Revenues from three separate collections. Many rarities from the Neal M.
Allen Collection. Plus, gem quality first issues from a private east coast

The sale offers a wide variety of material including a large selection of
certified Classic US with a #17 pair with double transfer, #109 OG, #218
used XF-Superb, high value Columbians, and 113 lots with certificates
including 87 PSE graded lots, (many GEM 100's), no. 587 grade 98 (none
higher), Washington/Franklins, EFO's, BOB, Shanghais and Parcel Post will
also be found. Of special interest in this sale, are two sets of ZEPPELIN
PLATE BLOCKS! Both are fresh NH sets and EXTREMELY SCARCE! The General
Foreign section features several Canadian lots and a valuable Israel tab
collection.
A complete set of the popular Federal Junior Duck stamps (JDS) is offered
along with original remarques on duck stamps, plate blocks, artist signed,
mini sheets, and errors. Also, a Flathead Indian Reservation 1988 pane of
ten with perf variations is a rare item.
Several outstanding and scarce duck stamp prints can be found including the
first RW1, 1934 by Ding Darling, a First Edition of RW26, 1959, King Buck,
and a 1971, and an RW38, by Maynard Reece.

Spink Shreves Galleries - The William H. Gross Collection of Important Postage Stamps and Postal History of the British Empire - October 3, 2008
On Friday, October 3, 2008 another impressive collection formed by William
H. Gross - his collection of Important Postage Stamps and Postal History of
the British Empire - will be sold at unreserved public auction in New York
City. And, once again, both Sue and Bill Gross demonstrate their remarkable
generosity by donating the entire sales proceeds to an important and
worthwhile charity - the Millennium Villages Project at the Earth
Institute.
The Gross Collection of the British Empire is relatively small (138 lots),
but a remarkable assemblage of highly desirable and seldom seen rarities of
the British Empire. There is no question this will be one of the most
anticipated auctions of the new fall season. Some of the areas strongly
