#5, 5c. 6d Slate Gray, excellent color, the LR diagonal
half used as a 3d, tied by cds to neat Buff cover from Quebec, Apr 26,
1858 to St. Sylvestre. Although the bisected side is not tied, the
placement of the stamp & the proper 3d usage confirm the authenticity of
this rare usage,. This is the only bisected example of this color variety
recorded and is the earliest recorded bisect.. Totally 8 bisects have been
recorded, 2 of which are not mentioned on the album page: 1 is on Thick
Soft paper (thus there are 4) & the other is Greenish Grey (thus there are

#10, 10a. 6d Reddish Purple on thick soft paper, good
color. The LR diagonal half used as a 3d, tied by 4-Ring 37 (RF3) cancel to
neat Blue Folded Letter Sheet (with expertly mended tear - clear of stamp &
markings) from Quebec, Jan 13, 1859 to "Bank of North America" at Montreal
bs. One of the finest of the 3 recorded Reddish Purple bisect covers. A
showpiece. Note: The cover also bears the pen notation on reverse "This
copy with two others was found in one bundle of letters in the B.(ank) of
B.N.A.. Montreal in the summer of 1889" signed by Chas. Cameronson. (All 3
