May 19, 1857 circular datestamps on blue folded letter to Copenhagen, Denmark, magenta '24' credit, red boxed P.D. handstamp, NEW YORK and HAMBURG backstamp, presumably and additional 3c stamp is missing which made up the 27c rate via French Mails, still appears Fine, rare usage, one of only two recorded usages of the 5c. 1856 issue to Denmark, the other cover pays the 35c. rate via Prussian Closed Mail, unpublished Census No. 12-COV-335, ex Hugh J. PKT, APR, 19 circular datestamp on back, red LONDON PAID transit, red SINGAPORE backstamp, stamps lifted and replaced, some overall wear. Fine appearance, an extremely rare destination, this cover would have required and additional 10c to pay the 39c British rate via Marseilles, probably paid in cash as there is no evidence of a missing stamp, ex Ishikawa and Gallagher. Challenger, Montevideo' mailed on return from Antarctica, franked by Great Britain 1d. red pl. 148 tied by '466' obliterator in black on arrival in Liverpool, handstamped by MACLEAR (Commanding Officer) in black. Oakham arrival cds on reverse and obverse with red PAID LIVERPOOL PACKET cds in red (March 17). A very rare cover, mailed from the famous 'Challenger's' Expedition on return from the Antarctic area, which took in Heard Island, Kerguelen Islands and other areas of the Antarctic.
