date range, incl. 16 with Russian stamp frankings, variety of European
destinations, diverse markings incl. a large number of "Aus Russland"
transits, scarce "C.R.p.P." straightline (via Prussia), excellent
condition, almost every cover has a colorful array of markings (or stamps),
which have been carefully described in the write-ups, a fascinating group

WEST INDIES AND SOUTH AMERICAN MAIL. Important collection of 335
covers on annotated exhibit pages in 9 albums, includes two volumes (50
covers) dedicated mainly to stampless 1855-72 South American mail to the
U.S. via Royal Mail Steam Packet plus a few via U.S. & Brazil Steamship
Co., other seven volumes comprise West Indies and South American mail with
in-depth study of RMSP sailings, variety of origins and destinations incl.
Brazil, Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, Guadeloupe, Venezuela, St. Thomas D.W.I.,
stamp frankings incl. G.B., France, French Colonies, Peru, Chile and
British Guiana, numerous forwarder handstamps, "Colonies & Art." and "tray"
handstamps incl. "GB/2f87-1/10c", British P.O. datestamps, French Maritime
markings incl. "Conf. Argentine Saintonge" datestamp and anchor cancels,
several scarce usages incl. Nov. 1861 sailing of RMS La Plata (which
carried news of the Trent Affair), May 1864 to Germany from the Watson
correspondence (a well-known source of blockade-run covers from the
C.S.A.), one volume contains a wealth of better U.S. covers incl. 1852 from
California miner via Panama, "N.York Steamship" and "40", "N.York
Steamship" circle on 10c Nesbitt entire with very interesting letter from
Aspinwall en route to San Francisco, 10c 1855-57 frankings via Panama,
Charleston and N.Y. "12-12" rate handstamps, ms. "Black Warrior" (N.Y. &
Alabama Steamship Co.) on 1853 Mobile to N.Y. via Havana, "Jamaica/Ship
Letter", "Baltimore Am. Pkt.", 1860's and 70's incl. some with better
frankings such as U.S. 12c 1869 and 2c/6c Bank Notes to Peru (faults), a
reasonable number of routine Lanman & Kemp covers and some late 19th
Century and early 20th Century, every cover is written-up with extensive
detail regarding routes, rates and markings, condition of stampless covers
is generally excellent, stamped covers should be expected to have faults, a
fantastic study collection worth careful examination |
