Historical Paper Ephemera, Four extremely interesting items, the
first is a one-page document datelined "Boston New Engld April 8th
1748" signed by William Shirley, Governor of Massachusetts (1741-1749),
asks Parliament to make a provision for 300 Pounds Sterling to pay the
troops raised "for the late intended Expedition against
Canada",addressed "To the Right Honorable William Pitt Esq.
Paymaster General of his Majesty's Land Forces, or to the Paymaster General
for the time being", 1770 deed from Plymouth Mass. ( a bit stained and
aged), 1813 two-page handwritten document from the French Minister of the
Navy entitled "Certificat D' Existence" to Paris with an enquiry concerning
a prisoner of war, official handstamps and several signatures including the
minister's, and last a wonderful ship's log from Topsham (1820-21), one
page front and back, mentions the Falkland Islands, going ashore on
uninhabitated Juan Fernandez for water (this was the home of Robinson
Crusoe in Defoe's novel), meeting a whaling vessel at sea, arriving at
"Ouhyhee" (Hawaii) where they "learned that the king was in
Woahoo" (Oahu), this has some aging and some slight flaws along folds and
edges, an exciting and valuable lot |
