Violet Paper, Inverted Center (RB1ad). Deep rich colors, bold cancel,
small paper indentation caused by cancelVERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE RARE
ONE-CENT PROPRIETARY INVERT ON VIOLET PAPER. ONLY 24 EXAMPLES ARE
RECORDED. In his privately published census, Larry Lyons records 23
examples of this invert error, most of which have thins or creases, or are
off center. The example offered here was not known to Lyons and is without
question one of the finest known.

bright color and sharp vignette impression, neat 1879 ms. cancel, trivial
corner crease at top rightVERY FINE. A EXTREMELY RARE AND ESSENTIALLY
SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE $5.00 PROPRIETARY ON VIOLET PAPER. Only 74 were
issued on Violet paper. The majority of the few surviving examples is
faulty to a significant degree. This stamp, with only a faint corner
crease, is one of the finest extant.
