1863, 2c Dark Blue,
Bluish (17). Plate 5-B, Type IV, Position 4, broken toe of "2"
variety, large even margins, neatly cancelled by blue "Lahain(a
Hawaiiian-Islands) July 21" circular datestamp, couple thin spots and
sealed tear at bottom not detracting in any way from the
appearanceEXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF THE MOST ATTRACTIVE USED
EXAMPLES OF THE RARE 1863 2-CENT DARK BLUE ON BLUISH PAPER. THE ONLY COPY
KNOWN TO US WITH THE LAHAINA DATESTAMP STRUCK IN BLUE. The 2c Dark
Blue on Bluish paper (Scott 17) was printed after Scott 18 and before Scott
20. It is one of the rarest of all Numeral Issues in either unused or used
condition, and almost all known examples have small faults. This stamp is
the only example of Scott 17 we were able to locate with a blue town
datestamp used as a cancel. Ex Middendorf, Ishikawa and Honolulu
Advertiser. With 1967 P.F. certificate. The broken "2" variety is
unlisted in Scott (value is for normal stamp without premium for variety or

tied by "Honolulu Hawaiian-Islands May 27" circular datestamp on large
piece to Rev. Sereno Bishop at Hana on East Maui, some lightened gum
stains, rim of datestamp heavily impressed across upper right corner,
effectively cutting thru paperVERY FINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF THREE
REPORTED EXAMPLES OF THE 1863 2-CENT DARK BLUE FIFTH-SETTING ON BLUISH
PAPER USED ON PIECE. THERE ARE NO KNOWN COVERS BEARING THIS HAWAIIAN

examplesVERY FINE. A CHOICE SOUND USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1863 2-CENT
BLACK FIFTH-SETTING NUMERAL ISSUE ON BLUISH GRAY PAPER. As the
relative Scott values indicate, used examples of the 1863 2c Black on
Bluish Gray (Scott 18) are scarcer in used condition than unused. Sound

RARITY, PROVIDING EVIDENCE THAT PLATE 5-A WAS USED TO PRINT 2-CENT NUMERAL
