(38). Five, used with 1882 10c Black (40), all tied by multiple strikes
of 3-ring target with 3-hole punch cancel (Ty. 116) on Dec. 1883
double-rate cover to London, faint Honolulu circular datestamp, San
Francisco transit and London receiving datestamps on back, skillfully
cleaned and pressed, 2c stamps have minor faults, still a Fine and
extremely rare multiple franking with the 2c Lilac Rose, a scarce stamp on
any kind of cover, especially commercial non-philatelic usages, this is
reported to be one of the largest multiple frankings (Image) |

(38). Tied by 3-ring segmented target (Ty. 117), "Honolulu H.I. Apr.
13" circular datestamp on cover addressed in Hawaiian to Koleaka, Oahu,
slightly reduced at right, still Very Fine, the use of "Oahu" in the
address and 2c inter-island rate suggest that this probably originated on
another island and was carried by schooner to Honolulu where it entered the
mails, an interesting use, ex Beardsley and Pietsch

oval with illustration of crater (Ty. 213, Rarity 1R) used as corner
card on cover to Denver Col., "Hilo, Hawaii, Nov. 23, 1890" circular
datestamp with duplex target also tying stamp, Honolulu transit on front
and San Francisco transit on back, receiving backstamp, light soiling and
edgewear, small tear at rightVERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF
THE VOLCANO HOUSE PICTORIAL OVAL USED ON COVER AS A CORNER

204, Rarity 1R) on cover to Delhi La., "John H. Maby, Volcano
House, Hawaii" double oval handstamp, two different Hilo transit
datestamps with Aug. 25 and Aug. 28 dates, Honolulu transit datestamp, San
Francisco transit and Delhi receiving backstamps, edges toned and somewhat
faulty, still Fine and very presentable example of this rare marking, this
is the latest date reported by Gregory
