(46). Perfectly centered, tied by purple "Hamakuapoko, Maui, Jul.
31, 1890" double-circle datestamp (Ty. 281.01) on cover to Auckland,
New Zealand, "Honolulu, H.I. Aug. 1 6AM 1890" duplex datestamp, red
"PAID ALL" in oval applied at Honolulu, Auckland receiving
backstamp, neatly docketed, slightly reduced at leftEXTREMELY FINE. A
REMARKABLE COVER WITH A SINGLE 12-CENT FRANKING FOR THE TREATY RATE TO ANY
AUSTRALIAN COLONY. Gregory does not report the number of 12c rate
covers from Hawaii to the Australian Colonies, but the description in the
Shreve 1996 Pietsch sale states "less than ten covers known," presumably
based on Albert Chang's records. This cover realized $4,750 hammer in that
