Wells, Fargo & Co.
Hawaii-U.S. Express. Printed frank in blue-black (Haller WF-HA) on
Hawaii 1884 5c Blue entire (U4), unaddressed, purple "Wells, Fargo & Co.'s
Express, Honolulu H.I. Feb. 15, 1884" and blue "Wells, Fargo & Co. San
Francisco Feb. 22, 1884" oval datestamps, offered "as is", certified by
P.F. in 1996 as "frank not contemporarily applied", the blue-black franked
entires were previously thought to be samples sent to Postmaster Whitney in
1884, but the break in the bottom frameline indicates that these were
probably among the 1890 reprints and that this is a back-dated example (the
break is not found in reliably dated entires from 1884), ex Honolulu
