addressee, Carrie S. Bond, was the daughter of Reverend Elias Bond, the
Kohala postmaster from 1858 to 1877

(31). Cancelled by "K" initial (Ty. 181, Rarity 1RRRR),
of unknown origin but probably applied on arrival at Kohala, to which this
cover is addressed, billboard advertisement on back with six
Honolulu firms listed including Powsett & Co. (building supplies),
Dillingham & Co. (hardware), J. M. Crowell (grocers), Bolles & Co. (ship
chandlers), Grinbaum & Co. (clothing) and Chas. Long (wine and liquors),
ms. docketing "Thrum Feb. 15, 1871" indicates source and date of
origin, toned spots and edge faults, still Fine, this extremely rare "K"
cancel was probably used at Kohala, in this case on mail received from a
ship from Honolulu (Image) |

2), red "San Francisco Cal. Paid All Nov. 20" transit datestamp, receiving
backstamp, fresh and Extremely Fine
