tied by clear strike of "COLLECTORS OFFICE/HILO, HAWAII" oval
handstamp (Ty. 211, Scarcity 2) in brownish-black on folded letter
written entirely in Hawaiian from S. Kamoa at Kukuau, Hilo, Apr. 24,
1860, to Mr. Lyman at Keaiwa, Kau (Frederick Lyman, Keaiwa postmaster from
1860 to 1869), a few tiny toned specks and light smear in blue ink of
addressEXTREMELY FINE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE NUMERAL ISSUE COVER WITH
THE HILO "COLLECTOR'S OFFICE" OVAL TYING A SUPERB 2-CENT ON GRAYISH PAPER
FROM THE FIRST PRINTING. ONLY A FEW LETTERS WRITTEN IN HAWAIIAN ARE
KNOWN. The distinctive Hilo "Collector's Office" handstamp was used as
a cancellation device during the Numeral Issue period and infrequently
later on the 2c 1864 Issue. Ex Crocker, Atherton and Pietsch. Scott

than some slight toning the stamp is fresh and perfectEXTREMELY FINE.
