452		12c Green (117). Horizontal pair, rich color, tied by circle of wedges cancels, red "New York Oct. 12" (1869) circular datestamp, second strike dated Oct. 13, date of departure of Cunarder China, on blue folded letter to Cadiz, Spain, sender's blue oval datestamp, "Paid-Only/To England" two-line handstamp, red London transit backstamp (Oct. 25), red "8R" due handstamp, perfs partly separated VERY FINE. A COLORFUL AND RARE 1869 PICTORIAL COVER TO SPAIN VIA BRITISH OPEN MAIL. This was presumably stamped for the 22c fully-prepaid British Mail rate to Spain, but it was over the 7.5 gram (-1/4 oz.) weight limit and was instead marked "Paid Only to England" with 8 reales due in Spain. The 10c rate to Spain via British Open Mail lasted only nine months after the 1869 Pictorials were issued. Ex Coulter. Used with 3c Green (147) and two 6c Carmine (148), one 6c has tiny wrinkle, cancelled and tied by blue Diamond fancy cancel with matching "Black Diamond Post-Office Dec. 2" oval datestamp on buff registered cover to Locarno, Switzerland, red "New York Registered Dec. 12" rimless datestamp, blue crayon registry number, framed "CHARGEE" handstamp ties 3c stamp, backstamped at Basel, Lucerne and Locarno VERY FINE. A SPECTACULAR AND UNIQUE COMBINATION OF ISSUES TO PAY THE 8-CENT REGISTRY FEE AND 19-CENT NORTH GERMAN UNION RATE FROM THE CALIFORNIA COAL-MINING TOWN OF BLACK DIAMOND TO THE TICINO REGION OF SWITZERLAND.
