deeply at right, tied by "Memphis Ten. Nov. 20, 1861" circular datestamp on
small cover to New Orleans, "N.O.U.S. City Post Nov. 22" circular
datestamp -- struck much more clearly than usual at this late period of use
-- street location "Barron St. Julia & St. Joseph" written by
carrier department at lower left, stamp has negligible corner crease in
margin from placement over edge of coverVERY FINE. THIS IS THE ONLY
RECORDED COVER WITH A CONFEDERATE POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL FROM OUTSIDE NEW
ORLEANS THAT WAS DELIVERED TO A STREET ADDRESS AND DATESTAMPED BY THE
N.O.U.S. CITY POST. The 2c fee for delivery was presumably paid in

1-2 (1) tied by Dec. 21, 1861 circular datestamp, some faults, still Fine,
a fascinating and very scarce pair of covers showing use of the Memphis
provisional and General Issue on mail to western Kentucky, Columbus was
evacuated by Confederate forces in March 1862
