margins to clear incl. part of adjoining stamp at left, tied by "Montgomery
Ala. Sep. 11, 1862" circular datestamp on turned cover used locally,
inside with horizontal pair of 5c Blue, De La Rue (6) tied by
"Montgomery Ala. Sep. 13, 1862" circular datestamp and used to Columbia
S.C., opened for displayEXTREMELY FINE. A RARE TURNED USAGE WITH THE
2-CENT GREEN LITHOGRAPHED ISSUE. The 2c Lithograph, which was usually
used to pay the circular or drop rates, is rarely found on turned covers.
This combination of rates (2c drop and 10c regular) and stamps (2c
Lithograph and 5c De La Rue) is not only extremely rare, this is one of the
finest 2c Lithograph covers in terms of quality.

tied by "Knoxville Tenn. Jul. 4, 1862" circular datestamp on brown
homemade cover to Lawrenceville Ga.FINE. ONE OF ONLY FIVE RECORDED
2-CENT GREEN LITHOGRAPH COVERS FROM TENNESSEE. THIS JULY 4TH COVER IS
POSTMARKED ONLY FOUR DAYS INTO THE NEW 10-CENT RATE PERIOD. Only five
Tennessee usages of the 2c Lithograph are contained in our Levi records.

Ten. Jun. 3, 1862" circular datestamp on orange cover to Jackson Miss.,
missing part of top flap, some slight wear, still Fine, this is the
latest known Confederate cover used from Memphis which fell to Union

Large margins, tied by "Chattanooga Ten. July 3, 1862" circular datestamp
on back of blue adversity cover made from printed form, to Lafayette
Ga., front of cover with bold "5" handstamp and ms. "Due", stamp torn on
opening, Very Fine, attractive usage, the rate changed from 5c to 10c on
July 1, this cover was charged 5c due for the additional postage for the
new rate (Image) |
