#416 var., 10c Golden yellow, an extraordinary mint single of a stamp which possesses a most unusual and distinctive color, which the accompanying 1996 PSE certificate describes as a "golden yellow", however in our opinion this is a classic example of the rare brown yellow shade which is listed in Scott as #416a (catalog $500.00), matching perfectly to the brown yellow example we sold in our April 2000 Collector's Series Sale for $2,750.00 (despite being centered to the top), this particular stamp is incredibly well centered amid huge margins, with deep luxuriant color, o.g., l.h., extremely fine; if indeed this is the brown yellow variety, this is clearly the finest example we have ever seen, as most are found off center, if the PSE certificate is correct this is still a most unusual and distinctive shade variety in remarkable quality.
