FD-GE intense black (S.G. Spec. AS4) block of four, fine impression, large even margins, on 1840 entire letter from London to Carlisle, tied by Maltese Crosses in red and showing "K/Ju-29/1840" c.d.s on reverse, according to accompanying certificate the stamps have been lifted and replaced, and the cover has had creasing pressed, though we can see no discernible difference between when the cover appeared in the Maximus sale in 1970 and today, very fine: any block of four is rare on cover, with this example being particularly desirable and handsome; 1998 RPS certificate; ex-Maximus, Griffiths, and Shaida.

SD-SE black (S.G. Spec. AS5) horizontal pair with good to large margins, on 1841 (12 Feb.) Mulready 1d. letter sheet A81 (minor faults on reverse) from Dublin to Edinburgh (14.2), cancelled by Maltese Cross in red with a matching strike adjacent, showing perfectly struck framed "More / To Pay" h.s. below, manuscript "2" and "over 1 oz.", origin and arrival d.s. on reverse, very fine and stunning; a truly fabulous usage of the Penny Blacks on an underpaid Mulready; 1957 RPS certificate and 1989 BPA certificate; ex-Sparrow, Glassco, Wills, and Manzi.

AS25) horizontal pair, large margins, both well tied by Maltese Cross cancellations in red, showing appropriate datestamps on reverse, ironed out creasing, one of which crosses the Plate 1b pair; a most pleasing double rate redirected cover; 1998 RPS certificate.
