1904 "Ship-Letter/Grenada/JU 11 4" c.d.s., of Carriacou, on the front of a Chile 2c Red on greenish blue postal card (H&G #26; additional adhesive removed), posted at San Felipe, Chile on April 18 to the Colonial Bank in Grenada, Valparaiso transit, for some reason sent all the way to New York with May 28th transit, then down to the Caribbean, probably to Kingston, St. Vincent, where it was placed on the mail boat service to Carriacou in the Grenadines, this marking was evidently used as a transit on incoming mail by this service, aside from the missing adhesive a very fine posting; an attractive and clear strike of this very rare marking of which only three examples are recorded, this being the earliest. 1905 "Ship-Letter/Grenada/JU 11 4" c.d.s., of Carriacou, on the reverse of a neat cover from St. Vincent to the Colonial Bank on Grenada, St. Vincent 1p Dull purple and carmine (S.G. #77) tied to the front by "Kingston/St. Vincent/AP 1 05" c.d.s., carried by the mail boat service between St. Vincent and Carriacou where this very rare marking was applied, very fine; one of only three recorded examples of this Ship-Letter marking on cover (Scott #72). S.G. #77s/88s, 1906-08 Badge of the Colony with "Specimen" overprints cplt. less the 6p value, these are normally issued specimens that were distributed to the UPU countries, but this set, going to a Portuguese country, received the additional "Ultramar" handstamp in blue, without gum as usual and facial scuffs to 2p Orange, few colors are changed because of the way they were stored, all quite usual for these difficult specimens (Scott #68S/78S). S.G. #77, 78, 1908 1/2p Green and 1p Carmine, two singles of the latter, tied to cover to the United States by exceptionally scarce "Grenada/G/26 AP 06" single circle c.d.s., even clearer strike at left, St. Georges transit on the reverse, cover is opened on two sides with slight edge wear and aging at right, fine and rare; controversy surrounds the use of the "G" parish cancel because of the lack of material as well as records, it is known rarely used at the GPO in St. Georges in 1862, then it was apparently used in a couple of different localities in sparsely populated St. David's Parish, at the period of the cover offered here it is believed to have been used at the village of St. Paul's in St. George's parish from about 1899 to 1907, only three covers are recorded with this single circle cancel (Scott #68, 69). S.G. #77, 78, 1908 1/2p Green and 1p Carmine pair, tied to cover to the United States by scarce "St. David's/Grenada/MY 6 08" c.d.s., transit of the General Post Office at St. George's on the reverse, cover opened roughly on two sides causing tears along left, filing pinhole affects one stamp, fine and attractive; the St. David's Parish was a sparsely populated parish and little mail came from it, this named cancel was sent from London on June 27, 1898 and is decidedly scarce on cover (Scott #68, 69). S.G. #80, 1906 2 1/2p Badge of the Colony surface printed die essay in ultramarine on white glazed paper, cut to stamp size and mounted on original card and matted, measuring 81x87mm, dated "6.April.05" and with two hand painted value tablets for the 1/2p Green and 1p Carmine affixed to matting, this is evidently the original proof for the approval of the design as this value was issued line engraved, though higher values were typographed, initialed and additionally dated "WHM 8/4/05", tiny surface blemishes to the proof, otherwise very fine; a unique original proof for approval; ex-Messenger and Hackmey (Scott #71).
