I, attractive and quite well centered single tied to lovely 1859 entire folded letter to Palma de Mallorca, Spain, the 5c paying the domestic postage being sent by British open mail via London to Spain, stamp unobtrusively tied by both a portion of a black New Orleans c.d.s. and a red "New-York/Br. Pkt./ Oct. 12" c.d.s., bold black "4.Rs." rate marking on the front for the amount due from the recipient for the transatlantic passage, London transit and Spanish backstamps on the reverse, very fine and handsome cover to a less usual European destination. I, huge-margined example of this scarce type, with the perforations well away from the design all around producing uncharacteristically wide borders, actually more reminiscent of type V than type I, neatly tied to cover to Philadelphia by black "San Francisco/Cal/May 20, 1860", endorsed "Via Panama", edge wrinkles and small tears to the cover, none affecting the stamp or marking, which is a very fine and especially choice jumbo.
