#485, 5c Carmine error imperforate double error in a pristine mint block of twenty (5x4), cut from the sheet so that portions of adjoining stamps appear at left, bottom and at right, brilliantly fresh, rich color, unblemished o.g., n.h., extremely fine.It has been recorded by George B. Sloane that a total of 48 uncut imperforate sheets of 400 of plate no. 7942 were sold out of the New York City Post Office, each sheet containing a single error and a double error, making 48 the maximum number of either error block and certainly less than that number are available today. This example from the Rosenthal collection is one of the finest quality of the small number of double-errors in existence.A fabulous showpiece example of one of the great rarities in United States philately.
