#47, 1893 "2 1/2d" surcharge on 6p Blue, tied to intriguing 1900 P.O.W. cover from Deadwood Camp by circular grid cancel, "St. Helena/MY 26 1900" c.d.s. at left, an early usage out of this camp as the first prisoners did not arrive until April of 1900, violet Ty. I censor marking initialed "JHMB" (J. Henry Mountifort Beasley), posted to Schweizer Renke, Z.A.R, this town was besieged by the Boers from August 1900 to January 1901 and mail was interrupted both during and prior to the siege, ms. "Post Suspended" and initialed plus "Returned/Letter" handstamp, various transits including red "Returned Letter Office/Capetown/FE 8 1901" c.d.s. on the reverse, very fine; a scarce prisoner-of-war cover showing the turmoil in South Africa (S.G. #40). #34/139, Small cover lot of nine covers, featuring two P.O.W. covers, one from Deadwood Camp to Diyatalawa Camp in Ceylon, light Ty. I censor marking and red censor tape, the other a registered cover with four adhesives from Broad Bottom Camp to Capetown, also with Ty. I censor and an unusual straight line "Broad Bottom Camp" cachet across it, both covers faulty as is not unusual for P.O.W. covers, especially inter-camp mail, other covers are later including a couple of commercial King Edward VII frankings and two 1935 Jubilee FDC's, each with full sets, fine-very fine except as noted (S.G. #36/152).
