shade, tied by Negative Cross in Heart fancy cancel, "Guilford Ct.
Feb. 14" (1870) Valentine's Day circular datestamp on small cover to
local addressee, accompanied by appropriately sized Valentine
enclosure VERY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE VALENTINE'S
DAY USAGE WITH THE RARE HEART-AND-CROSS FANCY CANCELLATION. The use of
a Heart fancy cancel (rare in its own right) on a Valentine envelope posted
on Valentine's Day, February 14th, is truly rare in any period and quite
possibly unique among 1869 Issue covers. This cover realized $1,500 in the
Grunin sale decades ago. Ex Grunin and Haas.

rate tied by grid on piece of Luray Va. tax form, Very Fine, a shortage of
1c and 2c stamps required the use of 2c and 3c bisects at the Luray post
office, pairs of the 3c one-third bisects are very rare, ex Col. Green,
with 1988 P.F. certificate, the Scott Catalogue should really list this
pair of bisects as a separate item
