1624   L. H. Chapman Letter Regarding "I.R." Overprinted Provisional No. R158A. Signed typewritten letter (front and back) on "Chapman Steamboat Line" Illustrated Stationery, undated but probably from the late 1920's to early 1930's, interesting background of the company, deals with his difficulty in keeping up with his paperwork without Revenue Stamps and his futile requests in trying to get stamps from the "I R Office", he requested permission to print his own and was told by the Revenue office to wait a day or two, he waited nearly a week and asked again, this time he was given permission to print his own stamps, he ordered 500 Trans-Mississippi stamps from the post office and had them overprinted by the Purvis Printing Co., he states he used all but seventeen, these "mints" he gave to a Mr. Baggs, when Baggs passed away , his collection was sold to a New York dealer, but only a strip of three was found in the collection, Chapman was 75 years old when he wrote this letter, also incl. is a Chapman business card, great collateral E. 300-400

1625   "Revenue Stamp Duties" Broadside. "Abstract of the U.S. excise Tax Laws" and list of revenue stamps available at the Boston Post Office, printed by John Wilson and Son, note on back indicates this was posted in front of the Boston Post Office in 1863, 11-5/8 x 20 in., framed 13-3/4 x 22 in., tack holes and edge faults, folds, separations and some aging, still an impressive piece of Revenue Stamp collateral E. 300-400

1626   Revenue Collection. Nearly 200 stamps on pages, strong in Proprietary with 1871-75 50c on Violet Paper (light creases) plus 1c-10c lower values on both papers, 1875-81 Perforated, Watermarked and Rouletted complete, the 3c is an unmistakably genuine horizontal pair and the 5c appears to be genuine with some perf trimming (still attractive), other roulettes probably okay as well, complete Battleships, 1914 single Line watermark less the rare RB42, 1914 Double Line complete and 1919 Blue complete, also some Future Delivery, 1918-29 Stock Transfer, 1940 mostly complete, $1.00-$20.00 Tobacco Sales Tax and $1.00 and $3.00 Boating, generally Fine-Very Fine E. 1,000-1,500
