Vertical pair, clear to large margins, tiny nick at bottom right, tied by red grid cancels with matching "Potomac Steamboat Oct. 27" route agent's circular datestamp, used with Blood’s City Despatch, Philadelphia Pa., 1c Bronze on Black Glazed (15L13), large margins all around, acid cancel at top left, on cover to Grahamville S.C., cover with faults and slightly refolded, still Fine and very rare use -- Alexander lists twelve 5c 1847 covers with this cancel, omitting this and one in our Sale 889 (lot 1876) making this the 14th 5c 1847 cover with the Potomac Steamboat marking -- this route agent marking was applied to loose mail handed in to the route agent on board the steamboat travelling mail route No. 2401 on the Potomac River between Washington D.C. and Aquia Creek Va.
