margin John Ash imprint block of four, characteristic centering for
this imprint, fresh colors, o.g., single minor h.r. at top portion of
gutter between the stamps and one in the bottom sheet selvage, the stamps
themselves n.h., top left stamp with single stray ink stroke not at all
obtrusive, bottom left stamp with a few nibbed perforations at left, still
very fine; an elusive imprint block that is almost never seen offered at
auction, in fact the massive holding of kangaroos assembled by Sir Gawaine
Baille (Sotheby's, July 2005) only had imprint pairs of this value, and
even the Col. Evans, Nelson or Pope collections of Kangaroos (all Prestige
Philately sales) did not have an imprint block (A$7,500). (Image) |

bottom margin John Ash imprint block of four, marvelously bright and
crisp, deep luxuriant colors, well centered, o.g., top left stamp with
minor h.r., top right stamp and entire lower unit n..h., very fine and
choice.This incredibly handsome imprint block is of the greatest rarity.
In fact, only three imprint blocks are recorded, one of which is in the
R.T.P. Chapman collection, which is now part of the Australia Post archival
collection. This block, and one other, are the only two in private
hands.One of the premier imprint rarities of the Australian
Commonwealth, and yet another incredible highlight of the Gray Collection
