#5A, 1c Blue, Ty. Ib, position 9R1E, a handsome
and seldom offered sound example of this scarce type, margins are huge
(showing portion of the sheet margin at top) to barely in at bottom, color
is in a deep rich blue that is less often seen than the typical pale blue
of plate 1 in its early state, this position is easily identified because
of a rather prominent double transfer in the top label that shows very well
on this stamp, light blue town cancel in a shade similar to that of the
stamp making for a very pretty copy of this, nearly very fine; 1993 PF
certificate. (Image) |

#6, 1c Blue, Ty. Ia, an extraordinarily handsome
and choice used example of this important classic rarity, being one of
only a few certified sound examples recorded of Scott #6, featuring
very large margins at both top and bottom which are essential to fully
identify the all-important Ty. Ia design characteristics, margins at sides
are largely full, intense dark shade and a well incised impression
contribute to this stamp's overall eye appeal, nicely cancelled by a
portion of a blue grid postmark, completely free of the myriad of
flaws which affect most known copies, very fine; the extreme rarity of Ty.
Ia stamps is due to the fact that only 18 of 20 positions on the bottom row
of plate 4 sheets produced this type, which shows a full design at bottom;
1994 PF certificate. (Image) |

#7/9, 1c Blue largely used specialized collection
of a total of 59 stamps, plus ten covers, this collection has been formed
to study the various plates and usages, many of the stamps have been
plated, a major item and the only unused piece is a top left corner unused
block of five from plate 2, large sheet margins are present and two of the
stamps (positions 2L2 and 12L2) show a large portion of the major
crack that occurred in this plate, the block has faults including
staining but comes with a 1973 PF certificate stating that it is unused,
two used stamps of positions 13L2 and 23L2 help to reconstruct the largest
portion of this crack, most of the rest of the stamps are Type II or Type
IV issues from plates 1-3, these consist of twenty singles, ten pairs and
three strips of three plus a block of three, there is also a single each
from plate 1 early (position 35R1E) and plate 4 (position 90R4) that are
Type IIIa, of the ten covers three have Type II singles and five have Type
IV singles on local or circular rate covers, one with a Type IV single is
position 41R1L showing a cracked plate at the throat, two covers have
strips of three, a vertical strip is Type II and a horizontal strip is Type
IV, there is also a cover from Hampden Sidney (College), Virginia to Little
