1445 Oog image1850-65 Classic Issues virtually complete with many scarce to rare stamps mostly in fine to very fine condition including 1850 set to 10r (vendor paid $1000 for the 10r; all with guarantee handstamps), 1851 set to 10r (pen-cancelled on small piece; the 2r on Pelure Paper, with almost full margins), 1852 set to 6r (ex the 2r, see the next lot), 1853 set to 6r (the 2r a bit cut-into; Bergua Certificate; vendor paid $2100), 1854 Arms to 2r, 1855 Fancy Wmk 2c on Blue Paper, 1856 Lattice Wmk 2c on White Paper, 1860-61 set to 2r (the 19c very attractive but thinned; vendor paid $600), 1862 19c two shades (both mint), 1864 19c (small faults), 1865 Imperf  to 2r x6 including a pair (the 19c with guarantee handstamp) and Perf 14 to 1r, and a few others, Michel Cat €40,000+. 1446 G image1852 Isabella Facing Left 2r pale orange Mi 14, margins just clear - at upper-right - to good, bars-in-oval cancel, Cat €5500. Certificates by Alfredo Fiecchi (1972), COMEX (1975) & Pablo Esteban Paredes (2013), the last of which states (translated) "without hidden defects or repairs". A very fine example of this rare stamp.

"cachet", Imperf ½t yellow-orange Scott 14 & huge (41x41mm) Official 1 1/3t olive Scott O4 - both marginal examples - tied to the reverse by superb strikes of the decorative '.../LHASA' cds (Chazen & Wong typeT42), two lines of elaborate monastic (?) script suggest a priestly origin, possibly even from the Dalai Lama, minor soiling. An enigmatic but beautifully compelling cover of which there is nothing remotely like it in 'Tibet Stamps & Postal History' by Steve Chazen & Danny Wong.

1458 c imagePOSTAL HISTORY: 1863 lengthy stampless entire in French headed "New York 16 Juin 1863 and signed "A Iselin et Cie", to France "p Persia" and improperly endorsed "Printed Circular", very fine '3 ETATS-UNIS 3/29/JUIN/63/SERV BRIT CALAIS' cds in red, Lyon arrival backstamp of 30/JUIN and with '15c' (decimes) handstamp (unusually with the 'c') in red. 'Persia' departed New York 16.6.1863. Built in 1856, it was Cunard's first iron-hulled paddle-steamer. On an early voyage, it set record times in both directions, winning the famed Blue Riband. She was sold for scrap in 1872. With translation of the contents including "...The invasion of Maryland and Pennsylvania by the Confederate Armies, the news of which has reached us this morning, will probably stop trading entirely..."  But then follows a glowing report of a booming stock exchange and "...Gold has been almost entirely neglected by speculators..." [Plus stampless entires1847 NY-Edinburgh per 'Arcadia' with '1/-' handstamp, & 1860 London-NY per "Africa Via Queentown" rated "38" with very fine '48' handstamp]  (3)
