FRESH AND VERY FINE. A CHOICE EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1851 USED FROM HAWAII, PAYING THE 10-CENT TRANSCONTINENTAL POSTAGE AND 2-CENT SHIP CAPTAIN'S FEE.
This was carried on the Frances Palmer, departing Honolulu on July 31, 1856, and arriving in San Francisco on August 24. It was postmarked at San Francisco on September 5 for the next steamer sailing for Panama (source: http://www.hawaiianstamps.com).

A VERY FINE COVER WITH THE HAWAIIAN 1857 "5" ON 13-CENT KAMEHAMEHA III PROVISIONAL STAMP USED IN COMBINATION WITH THE UNITED STATES 12-CENT 1851 ISSUE. ONE OF ELEVEN SUCH COMBINATIONS RECORDED BY GREGORY.
Five of the nineteen 5c provisional covers recorded by Gregory were carried on this trip of the Vaquero, which stopped at Honolulu on its way from Australia and carried two bags of mail when it cleared Honolulu on June 27, 1857. She returned to safe harbor with a broken mast and left again on June 29 with additional mail, arriving in San Francisco on July 16 (Gregory).

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE MIXED-FRANKING COVER TO THE PORT OF SAN FRANCISCO WITH THE UNITED STATES 3-CENT 1861 ISSUE AND HAWAIIAN 5-CENT KAMEHAMEHA V ISSUE.
Although no year date is present, the earliest use of the Lahaina backstamp is recorded by Gregory (www.hawaiianstamps.com) as March 22, 1867. This cover falls into the Fifth Sub-Period of the Late Treaty Period, according to Gregory (http://www.hawaiianstamps.com). The 3c stamp prepays the 2c ship fee and 1c drop rate for delivery in San Francisco, the port of arrival.

VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE MIXED-FRANKING COVER WITH BOTH STAMPS TIED BY THE HONOLULU POSTMARK AND WITH THE HAWAIIAN STEAM SERVICE MARKING.
This cover was carried on a contract sailing of the Montana, departing Honolulu on July 22, 1868, and arriving in San Francisco on August 5.
